DO YOU KNOW YOUR LEARNING STYLE?

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Feb 3, 2010 in specials

Hi there, do you know your learning style or is this your first time hearing about this? There are broadly speaking 4 types of learners. Bill Gates knows about this and that is why he is known world wide. Read his quote “We all learn best in our ways. Some people do better studying one subject at a time, while some do better studying 3 things at once. Some people do best studying in structured linear way, while others do best jumping around. Some people prefer to manipulate models and others by reading.” From the book “Ten Exam Secrets Of Highly Successfulteens”, The Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic learners are explained in detail. If you want to know your style of studying, download your copy. Watch This!YouTube Preview Image

Your Mind Is A Muscle That Needs A Work Out

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Feb 2, 2010 in specials

YouTube Preview ImageWho has ever seen their mind? Your mind believe it or not is stronger than you know or can even imagine. Your mind has the power to create the exact life you want. You see when God created us, he created us in His own image and likeness, meaning we have the mind of Christ. This information alone should make you sit upright and begin to explore what your mind can do and where it can take you.

Where do you do most of your thinking? Your entire perception about life depends largely on the correct functioning of your mind. All your thought processes and patterns originate from your mind. The way you analyse and interpret life goes hand in hand with the results you see in your life. My book  The Teen With a Millionaire Mind-set  talks about how your mindset can actually draw you make your millions.

I once heard a story about a teen who was born with a disability. It was so bad that he was not able to use both his upper and lower limbs. There was however another abled teen who lived in that same neighbourhood as the disabled teen. Who out of these two in your opinion is likely to fulfill their destiny?

Surprisingly the disabled teen through the power and use of his mind became a celebrated author producing five novels every year. His disability did not deter him from using his mind. He exercised his mind day in day out until he eventually wrote volumes of his novels with a pen in his mouth. Incredible! How on earth could he do that with such disability, when we abled bodies are found wanting and are not sure what to do with our lives I hear you say.

The answer is in the power of the mind. His disability could not stop him from using his most powerful muscle, the human mind. Yes he could not physically exercise his legs and arms, but he could his mind.

What has been your own limiting belief? Is it that your mind is not taking you exactly where you plan on going or is it that you just keep on playing games over and over again with your mind?

I believe you have seen a body builder or you have personally engaged in building up some muscles. What happened when you decided to build that muscle? Did it happen overnight? Well I know all teen boys can easily answer this question and for teen girls the answer is, it does happen overnight, it takes time and alot of discipline.

You start by exercising a few minutes every day until the muscle begins to take shape, then you increase the repetitions of the same exercise, then you increase the number of minutes until the muscles form gradually. You then exercise to maintain the muscles.

Likewise if you want to exercise your mind you start gradually, you might decide to start reading for a few minutes a day, increase your reading time. Do some puzzles, get involved in mental activities, drilling yourself with questions, play sudoku, monopoly, scrabble, chess or any games that can get you mind thinking. You can decide to learn a new language, a new hobby, read scholastic articles from the internet, you do speed reading or even get into a group reading. Get your mind actively involved in seeking knowledge in stead of always sitting in front of the television or engaging in activities that slow down your brain.

To strengthen any muscle in your body, you have to work it out. Explore and find interesting ways to get your mind into an active mode. Work your mind out and she will serve you well, even well into your old age. Do not forget to feed it with the necessary nutrients too.

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Jan 28, 2010 in specials

It has been proven that there is a strong link between concentration during studying time and music. Certain kinds of music stimulate the brain cells to absorb and concentrate on the material being studied. So if you want to increase your concentration, play some music.

TEENS-DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Jan 19, 2010 in specials

YouTube Preview ImageGratitude will open doors unto you because once you become aware that your life is a gift from God you are on your way to fly as high as the eagle. When you begin to appreciate your very existence thanking God for the stars, the moon, the sun, the air , you position yourself for more of his favour and grace.

It is amazing how teens grow up forgetting how to be grateful to the very parents who nurtured and cared for their every .  The whole of  society begins to degenerate when there is lack of appreciation to the right people in our lives- parents, teachers, preachers, doctors, think about any person in your life who has made it possible for you to be where you are today. You should be grateful for your siblings who have served as a source inspiration and challenge to you. Even for the people who seemingly appear to be hindrances in your life. They are there to make you strong, to make you reach for the stars.

“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven.” Johannes A. Gaertner

Do you want to touch heaven? Then this is what you must do DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE..

This is an insightful story I normally tell teens who show signs of ingratitude. A man dejected in life decided to end it all  by hanging himself. He took of his shirt, trousers and finally his shoes, just then he heard a strange noise and noticed from afar  three disabled men. The first had no arms with which to wear and to look good in a shirt, the second had no legs and was in a wheel chair meaning he could not spot a lovely pair of trousers and the last man had no feet and was on cratches, he could not wear a decent  pair of   shoes. He looked again and this time started burst into tears realizing  his folly – not appreciating what he had taken for granted – arms, legs and feet. Do not look dejected neither lack confidence, there is more to you than meets the eye instead begin each day with a grateful heart!

The dejected and ungrateful man looked again and burst into tears realizing how ungrateful he had been all his life, not appreciating what he had been given all this time.

Your Exams Are Approaching

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Oct 3, 2009 in specials

It is amazing how most students leave their studies and revision  till the last minute. It is incredible how they think they can cram all their notes of 2 or 3 years within a space of  2 or 3 weeks. Wake up teens, because even though your brain is stronger than any computer ever built, you personally need to start your revision early. Your brain needs to keep what you are learning in your long term memory. Many times when you study, the information stays in your short term memory for it to stay in your long term memory, you need to study it relatively over and over again unless of course you have a photographic memory.

Start your revision today! Stay ahead of your class. Success could be yours if you just try.

Position Yourself For The Future

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Sep 30, 2009 in specials

Teens With A Bright Future

Teens, think about your tomorrow today. Every day you live is counting towards your future. Learn from now to start building and taking a strict account of your life. Choose your path in life starting from today.

Do not wait till you hit 20, by which time it may be late, if not too late.

Start by checking how you are in progressing in life. How many books have you read in the last 30 days, in the last week? Dear teen if you are not reading, then watch out because that is a serious indication of a life going no where and better still a life without a purpose. There is so much information out there concerning every and any area of life you want to pursue. What is your future plan? Every plan of achievement you dream of has already been achieved by another so seek information, develop your knowledge.

Learn to face the world squarely. You want to be determined to get what you want and get to your peak of who want to be. One man said about her teen daughter who would not give up in life no matter what negative circumstance she faced “She is like a frog in a bucket of milk, she will keep on moving until the milk is fully churned into butter and then she will jump out.”

Never in life should you give up. You may make a few wrong turnings but never give up, you can always change the course of your life to make it better.

Be prepared for new opportunities every day, those who are expectant least get disappointed, but those who expect nothing are sure to get nothing. Set your faith up to meet three right people who will help you fulfil your ambitions and goals in life. Expect to be connected and linked to the right people.

Tap into your natural resources. As you may have already noticed you are interested in certain fields of studies than others, that is your natural gift tap into these. Start planning your future today. The Bible says we should learn from the ants who gather and build their homes during the summer time and hibernate during the winter season. Now is your summer as a teen, build as intelligently as you can.

as a teen where she wanted to be the best, but lacked the exposure, especially exposure to the world of business. Now a serial entrepreneur, a private tutor and coach, a best selling author and a successful network marketer, Laura is mentoring teens to leadership and helping them create their own success stories.

Count The Cost To Your Exam Success

Posted by LAURA LYSEIGHT on Sep 30, 2009 in Newsletter

Have you been settling for less? Are you stretching yourself or getting away from anything that will make you a success? Maximise your life, do not always go where life is easy and not challenging, rather find opportunities to express yourself and fulfill your ambitions as a teen.

Start tracking your activities and track your progress because your life goes in cycles. Are you taking note of all that happens in your life daily or are you aimless?

Be responsible for exactly what you do in a day by writing out what you achieved in that day. Track your success activities because success leaves clues.

When we wake up, each of us is given a blank cheque of 24 golden hours. How you use your cheque will determine how close you get to your exam success and success as a whole in life.

Learn from a day by writing what happened in school, during a lesson, were you physically and emotionally present in class. Write who you met, who encouraged you, who discouraged you, what made you excited or sad. Did you understand a topic that was taught? How well are you planning your revision towards your excellent grades? As you begin to ask and track these questions, you are on your way to a breakthrough in life.

You have the power to take charge, the ability to count the cost to your own exam success. Be warned as it will cost you a lot of time and wise decisions to get you where you want to get to in life. My teacher once said “It takes guts not to follow the crowd.” Believe you me, it surely pays not to be like everyone else. If you see anybody who is successful in their academics or in life, see them as people who have learnt to pay the price for their achievement. They are people who have sat and planned their daily lives with grounded and solid principles. The Bible says that “if you see a man who is diligent in his ways, then he shall stand before kings.” In the same way if you take your study life seriously, then you will no doubt be a success and will be equally awarded.

Start studying what motives you to study and do more of that. Watch the things that take and waste precious time and move far away from such.

The most common examples that we both know, will be the excessive watching of television which is the number culprit and time waster of most teens. Having said this I think the mobile phone now supersedes the television. Note that you can decide to watch all the television, text and chat as long as you like after your exams, so decide on what you want, is it going to be barely passing your exams because of a lack of self-discipline or is it going to be your books above all else?

Cut down also on unnecessary mingling and loitering about after school with friends, in stead make it a point to visit the library or go straight home and after resting for a few hours start your planned revision.

During your time of revision, find ways of making your revision worthwhile and gear you towards being able to answer exam questions. Also find as many past questions as possible to help you to know the exam style questions.

Count the cost now! Success is key to your better life.
